STRAIGHT HAIR & FORMALDEHYDE NAILS

top Forever 21 | pants BDG | leather jacket thrifted/off-brand | perfume (untitled) by Maison Martin Margiela

This was supposed to be a simple test shoot to play with the lighting at a certain time against my new black backdrop but I got carried away by posing and messing with props. Obviously I'm pretty happy with the setup, haha. I'm always trying to work on natural poses, well, not holding and trying to shoot one pose a bunch of times, but creating a rhythm and working into poses. I used to compare posing to acting or dancing with the movements, which I still do sometimes, but now I just like to flop around and see what I can come up with. It's not as calculated.

As for my look, I wanted straight hair which I haven't had in months. It looked pretty smooth! Sometimes my hair can look red, but it's just an iridescence, which is really apparent in the last shot against the rest of my hair. My nails have Neon Green by American Apparel on them, a shade which actually does have formaldehyde in it. They're usually 3-free but this one isn't and it even has a warning label on it, which I thought was cool even if it's bad there's formaldehyde in it, haha. One manicure won't kill me.

The leather jacket was thrifted for only $4.50. It's too big on me but I can't pass up inexpensive genuine leather and I ended up liking the oversized look after this shoot. When I found it, I thought I was going to have to fight off this woman who wanted it after she saw it in my hands. I assume she was on meth or something since she had that type of demeanor and was a little grabby at it. It was an odd encounter.
