CRYSTAL EYES

A look inspired by Prada, Miu Miu, the film Christiane F., and the makeup at Vivienne Westwood Spring 2012 RTW and Yohji Yamamoto Fall 2012 RTW. I'm wearing one of my only garments with faux fur, an old Morbid Threads jacket that I've had since I was 9 or 10. It was one of my favorite jackets and I used to wear it all the damn time, so much I'm surprised it looks as good as it does.

For my eyes, I wanted to recreate colors the body can make from bruising, being tired, etc. and I added crystals for extra flair. The lipstick, a discontinued Morgana Cryptoria shade, looks pretty good here. It's actually kind of sucky and this is the first time I've used it since I reviewed it forever ago. It's only good for a short amount of wear and with a little help from Photoshop. I also tried using blush near my cheeks and temples, but it made me look a little sunburnt. I guess that can be cute sometimes, just not feeling it here.

GOODNESS GRAYCIOUS

On my lips, I'm wearing Goodness Graycious by Limnit Lipsticks. I found out about this new indie brand through Portrait of Mai - one of my favorite blogs! Mai's also one of the few bloggers who actually influences me to buy (or not buy) products. There aren't enough blogs that make me want anything these days, haha. Anyway, I bought a sample jar set with three colors: Goodness Graycious, League of My Own, and Bewitching Hour. I've only worn Goodness Graycious so far but the others swatch beautifully and I'm definitely going to try them out soon.

I'm having a hard time describing Goodness Graycious. Is it grey, lavender, or taupe? I'm just going to say it's a mixture of all three. It looks really grey in the photos, as if I desaturated it, but that's how it looks in the jar and on my lips in person. I think the way my lip color shows through in the less opaque areas makes it look more lavender. The swatch photo in the shop looks more taupe with brown tones. I thought NYX's lip pencil in 1000 Years would be similar since it looks almost exactly like the official swatch, but Goodness Graycious is much less saturated and slightly darker. Whatever color it is, I really like it!

Application is a little tough because of how solid the lipstick is. I scrape it out with one of my nails and onto my hand to warm and loosen up with a lip brush. It can have a few tiny chunks if it's not completely worked through. I think it would be less wasteful and easier to use with the tube of lipstick. I'm using it from a jar, so I can't complain too much.

Formula-wise, it's semi-matte and non-drying with lip balm underneath. It reminds me of a less matte version of Illamasqua's lipstick. It wears well and comfortably but it fades and kind of clumps up in areas closest to the opening of my mouth after 3-4 hours. Nothing too bad. I do wish it were slightly more opaque since I feel like I use a lot for this amount of coverage but there are still some areas of my lips that peek through. One more thing I want to note is the smell, which is like cheap creme makeup except less powdery and not as overbearing. I used to really hate that smell when I was younger and used Halloween makeup sets but now I oddly like it.

Overall, I really like this lipstick despite the application and slight fading. The color, along with the two other samples, is unique to my lip collection. I'm looking forward to what Limnit Lipsticks has to bring and hoping they continue to make interesting colors!

FUR, FAUX FINGER WAVES, AND A FRENCH MANI

leather and fur coat, cashmere sweater, polyurethane pants, white fur coat, fur collar all off brand/thrifted | bullet necklace thrifted/handmade

I'm alive! I had the worst cold I've had in years and I'm still slowly recovering from it. Yesterday I was finally able to shoot something, although nothing too major since I'm constantly blowing my nose and that means I can't even wear fun lipstick without wiping it off in the process. I focused on eyes, hair, and nails instead.

Yeah, I finally did something different to my hair! It's inspired by the hair at Yohji Yamamoto Spring 2003 RTW and Prada Spring 2011 RTW. It took forever to do because I suck at doing hair. To do it, I pretty much made quick, slick finger waves just with a section on the front part of my head and without the wave texture. I used a ton of gel and hairspray, which is totally not good for my hair but I guess it's okay for one time.

I had a sudden urge to give myself a french manicure because I thought it'd look ridiculous and funny with the length of my nails. I genuinely like the look for some reason. I did a decent job since I haven't tried it many times before, although I should've bought a different base color since the one I bought was too opaque. My natural nails are slightly stained a different tone, which isn't too visible here because the photos are in black and white. I ended up keeping everything clear except for the tips.

For my eyes, I cut up a few false eyelashes and glued them to my lower lash line. I think I should buy more false eyelashes to play with. I've actually grown to like them more recently! I should make more out of horsehair, too.
