The NYX Macaron Lippies were one of my most anticipated makeup products this year and they're finally out! I remember when drugstores regularly sold silver and iridescent lipstick in the late 1990s and early 2000s. They were the only products I was interested in! I still own (but don't use) a few of them by Naturistics, Revlon Street Wear, etc. It's cool to see a drugstore brand make lip products in untraditional colors again. I want nearly all of the shades but I settled on only five for now. I have Citron (yellow), Pistachio (mint), Earl Grey (powder blue), Lavender (lavender), and Black Sesame (grey).
Gorgeous, right? The formula is creamy and a little slippery at first, but they dry down a bit (still creamy) and slightly even out after about 15 minutes. For best results, I exfoliate and apply over completely dry lips, nothing underneath. They feel comfortable and lightweight. I had slight fading after a few hours but nothing too bad. As shown in the photos, they don't stick too well to the areas nearest to the opening of my mouth, but when the product settles more, it looks fine after I pat my lips together. Citron is the sheerest and streakiest, then Lavender is the second most streaky (not sure how it ended up looking so good in the photo). Pistachio and Powder Blue are pretty decent. Black Sesame is the most opaque and easiest to apply. It's a completely neutral grey, by the way!
The packaging seems looser and feels cheaper than the NYX Matte Lipsticks. The lipstick tube twists back down as I apply. If I hold the tube by the clear part where the window is, it doesn't do this. However, I found application with a brush to look better and have less streaks.
You can't go too wrong with them for $6 (or cheaper, NYX is coupon friendly). Black Sesame, Earl Grey, and Pistachio stand out of the most for me. I wasn't too big on Earl Grey until I wore it yesterday and ended up loving it. I prefer lip products in untraditional colors to be semi-matte or matte finishes but I think I'll still wear these a lot because the colors are so vibrant and unlike anything else I have.
When I first swatched them, I was pleasantly surprised at how much the colors didn't look too close to anything I already own, except for Citron which is pretty close to OCC lip tar in Traffic. Citron is slightly lighter and much sheerer although they still look very close in color on the lips anyway. I recommend Traffic over Citron if you're serious about yellow lipstick and want the best quality, but Citron isn't too bad if you want something for less or to play around with. Other than that, I thought it would be helpful to include colors that seem vaguely similar to show how much they actually differ in shade, tone, and vibrancy. Also, OCC lip tars dry down to a semi-matte finish, they are still wet and freshly applied here.
